The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Bradshaw first overall in the 1970 NFL Draft. The Steelers won a coin flip tiebreaker with the Chicago Bears for the first choice in the draft in 1969, according to the teams’ close 1–13 records. Bradshaw was widely regarded as the No. 1 pick at the time.
Bradshaw became a starter in his second season after splitting time with Terry Hanratty in his rookie season.
