Carrie Gracie, 56, was born in Bahrain in 1962. She is the daughter of an oil executive from Scotland. Gracie, who is of white ethnicity and of Scottish nationality.
Carrie’s mother died of ovarian cancer when she was 17 years old. It took her some time to recover from the devastating event. Aside from her late mother, no information about her family life has ever surfaced on social media.
Carrie received her education in Aberdeenshire and Glasgow, according to her academic background.
She enrolled at the University of Edinburgh before leaving to run her restaurant for a year. Gracie later earned a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Hertford College at the University of Oxford.

Gracie began her professional career as a correspondent as well as on assignment, including African, Chinese, and Asia-Pacific regions on BBC World Service, thanks to her strong interest in journalism. Carrie was hired as a BBC World Service correspondent in 1991 and moved to the UK in 1999.
Her English assignment began as a BBC News and World Service presenter. Meanwhile, she has been the primary morning presenter for the BBC News Channel from Tuesdays to Fridays for the past six years, beginning in January 2008. Sally Nugent, an English journalist, is also well-known for her work at BBC News.
In December 2013, Gracie was appointed as BBC News’ first editor for China, based in Beijing. Her post, however, was cut short between the end of December 2017 and the start of January 2018. She was extremely disappointed by the BBC’s international editors’ pay discrimination based on gender.
Gracie later returned to the BBC newsroom, where she earned £145K.

Gracie fell in love with Cheng Jin, a Chinese rock drummer, in 1991. The two, who were destined to become a future couple, were filming a documentary series at the time.
After four years of love, Gracie returned to London with Jin and later exchanged wedding vows with him. In September 1996, the couple was blessed with a daughter named Rachel. Daniel, Gracie and Jin’s son, was born two years later.
Their marital bond, however, did not last long. Though the couple split up, they appear to have ended on good terms, as Jin is invited to stay at Carrie’s house whenever he visits Britain.
Gracie’s Cancer Struggle!
Gracie was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. She had to go through six months of radiotherapy.
However, her breast cancer reappeared in 2011, necessitating a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. Gracie’s bravery and ability to hold on got her through the perilous situation.
Furthermore, the effects of cancer had already shaken Gracie’s family when her daughter, Rachel, was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of two. It was the most difficult moment for Carrie to witness her daughter’s suffering at such a young age.
Fortunately, Rachel was able to overcome the disease with the help of her loving and caring mother after three years of treatment.
