Bill Whitaker was born in Philadelphia on August 26, 1951 to Afro-American parents. Bill, who is of average height, is of American nationality and of mixed ethnicity.

Coming from an African-American family, he received a B.A. in American History from Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Bill later attended Boston University, where he earned a master’s degree in African-American studies. In addition, in 1978, he enrolled in a graduate journalism program at the University of California, Berkeley.

Career

Following his studies, Bill began his journalism career as a reporter at KQED in San Francisco, California, in 1979. Whitaker landed a job as a correspondent at WBTV in North Carolina after honing his media skills.

Bill’s career high came in November 1984, when he joined CBS News as a reporter. He was soon appointed as CBS News’ Tokyo correspondent, a position he held for three years beginning in 1989. Bill later relocated to Los Angeles and worked as a CBS News correspondent there.
