College Life
Granger began his basketball career at Bradley University, where he appeared in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
Granger transferred to the University of New Mexico after a disappointing second season. During the second semester of his junior season in 2003-04, he began playing for New Mexico.
Danny was initially barred from playing for the Lobos until January 2004. He stated that his decision to go to college was motivated by Jim Lee, the Braves head coach, and his threatening techniques.

Granger was the first player in school history to have 60 assists, 60 blocks, and 60 steals in a single season in 2004-05.

During the 2006 summer, Peja Stojakovic left the Pacers, and Al Harrington replaced him. Granger was then named the starting point-forward for the 2006-07 season.

Granger was then the Pacers’ first guy off the bench in the first 15 games.
Due to an eight-player trade with the Golden State Warriors on January 17, 2007, Granger began playing as the small forward and shooting guard. Because Harrington departed from the squad, the trade was finalized.
The Pacers’ second and third scoring options were eliminated. Granger also received more scoring chances. He then averaged 13.9 points each game.
Granger then led the Pacers in scoring during the 2007-08 season. He scored 19 points per game on average. The Pacers played 80 games that season, and the USA native appeared in all of them.
On October 31, 2008, Granger and the Pacers agreed to a 5-year contract extension. Every year, the total would grow by 10%. However, the increase would expire after the 2013-14 season.

In the 2008-09 season, Danny set a career-high with 42 points against the Detroit Pistons on December 12, 2008. He repeated the feat against the Golden State Warriors the following month, in January.
Granger was named an All-Star reserve by the Eastern Conference on January 29, 2009. He was named the 2008-09 season’s Most Improved Player.
By the end of that season, Granger had increased his scoring average by at least five points per game each year. For three years in a row, 7.5, 13.9, 19.6, and 25.8.
As a result, he became the only player in league history to hold this record.
Comeback Following the Breakout Season
Granger’s breakthrough season came in 2008-09. His next season was a bit of a letdown after that. He was hit hard by injuries and defeats.

Later Years On February 20, 2014, Granger was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen. Six days later, he was purchased out by the 76ers.
Granger re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers a few days later. In July, he was re-signed by the Miami Heat. In a 101-102 loss to the Orlando Magic in December, he set a season-high with 21 points.
Granger was dealt to the Phoenix Suns the following season. The New Orleans Pelicans were one of three clubs involved in the transaction. However, he was unable to play due to a knee injury. That season, he did not play for the Suns.
Despite his injury with the Suns on June 17, 2015, he exercised his one-year, $2.17 million option.
After a disappointing season in 2015, Granger was dealt to the Detroit Pistons. The deal was for a 2020 second-round draft selection. Before the season began, the Pistons waived him in October.
Granger took the remainder of the season off to make sure he fully healed from his injuries.
