Biography of Mike Wankum
Mike, also known as ‘Hardy New Englander,’ grew up on a farm in Iowa, a state in the United States. He grew up in a farming family and was exposed to the effects of weather from an early age.
His entire family was involved in farming. So going crops was their only option for feeding their stomach. However, crop yields were previously hampered by a variety of weather conditions. For example, his parents’ barn was destroyed by a tornado, large hail stripped their crops bare, and several feet tall snow drifts made it difficult to grow crops during the winter.
Mike grew to appreciate the weather as he faced various weather conditions. And he learned to forecast the weather not as a hobby but as a necessity for his family.
He eventually graduated from Briar Cliff University. Then, in the heart of Tornado Alley, he pursued his Masters in Atmospheric Science at Creighton University. He also joined the American Meteorologist Society and earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation.
Aside from weather forecasting, Mike enjoys riding dirt bikes with his brother. They used to race together when they were younger.
