Lucas started her career in weather broadcasting after earning her meteorology degree from Durhan University.
Lucas worked in the French Alps for two years after graduating while still taking part in winter sports.
She eventually joined Met Office in January 2007. She began working as a weather forecaster at the Met Office headquarters in Exeter, Devon, England after completing her forecaster training at the Met Office College.
Lucas had the ability to hone her weather-predicting abilities while she was employed there. After over ten years of service to the network, she left to join BBC in 2016. She has since joined BBC as a broadcast meteorologist.
