Elgin Baylor, an American former basketball player, is regarded as one of the game’s greatest forwards.
He was born on September 16, 1934. He grew up with two basketball-playing brothers, Sal and Kermit. Elgin followed in his brothers’ footsteps and began playing basketball.
Elgin, now 84, received scholarships to further his education. During his high school career, he was named All-City three times. He dropped out of school, however, due to poor academic performance, and began working in a furniture store.
Elgin’s friend later arranged for him to receive a scholarship to the College of Idaho, where he played basketball and football. After one season, however, the college fired the head basketball coach and limited the scholarship.
Despite the fact that Elgin did not receive a proper education, he never lost his interest in basketball.

Elgin began his basketball career while still in high school. He began at Seattle University in 1958, leading the team to the National Collegiate Athletic Association championships tournament.

Elgin has never looked back since he entered the field. Finally, after a successful career, he retired from the game in 1971 due to nagging knee problems.
Elgin was hired as an assistant coach after retiring from the position of head coach. He is currently an author, having recently published his book, Hang Time: My Life in Basketball.
