Roxana: Professional Life

Roxana relocated to Iran in 2003. The Iranian authorities revoked Saberi’s press accreditation and closed the FSN Bureau, where she worked as a reporter, in 2006.

She kept a second press pass, which allowed her to work as a freelance reporter for the BBC network in Iran. In late 2006, it was also revoked.

Roxana left the BBC after that, but she continued to report from the country for IPS, ABC Radio, and NPR.

Roxana was charged with espionage by the Iranian government on April 8, 2009, and she denied the charges. She was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 8 years in prison.

The charge against her was reduced from espionage to possessing classified information by an appeals court.

Roxana’s Private Life

When it comes to Roxana’s personal life, she has yet to make headlines in the world’s most famous tabloids.

According to edition.cnn.com, Roxana’s fiance is Iranian film director Bahman Ghobadi.

When Roxana was in prison, Bahman told CNN that her four months in prison was equivalent to four years for him. When Roxana was in jail, he even wrote her a letter.
