Who is Patrisse Cullors Married To?

Cullors married Janaya Khan, who is self-identified queer and gender-nonconforming, in 2016 and have been together ever since.

The NAACP History Maker Award winner discussed her dating experiences and coming out as a homosexual while still in high school in a 2016 interview with Esquire.

The 37-year-old said that being open about her sexuality with her friends and family allowed her to express herself honestly. At 16, she got her first girlfriend. Exploring more about the queer community, she came across authors such as bell hooks and Audre Lorde, who spurred her advocacy.

While working her way towards making a difference in black communities and legal rights for same-sex marriage, Cullors met Janaya in 2015 and instantly connected. Furthermore, Cullors and Janaya made their relationship legal the next year with the goal of challenging the conventional norm of marriage as a “white, heteronormative, religious construct.”

She further stated, her family embraced the couple’s union, and her mother was very friendly and caring toward her boyfriend.

On the official website of MomsRising, a non-profit group fighting toward saving mothers’ lives all throughout the nation, Cullors wrote about her pregnancy and post-delivery hardships.

As per the post published in 2017, Cullors mentioned she did not receive enough attention after having her child, Shine, in the hospital through a c-section. As a result, she encountered after-birth difficulties such as pneumonia and blood clot.

Generally, these diseases are often encountered in women who went through c-sections, although she was unknown of the post-delivery hazards.

Having gone through similar challenges herself, she began observing a large number of deaths of women after childbirth and finally created a maternity justice program at MomsRising to bring down the death rates and lower the chances of maternal dangers.

Cullors Criticised Of Using BLM Fund To Her Advantage

The activist has long been in the public eye after her rise to fame during the BLM demonstrations. Her real estate purchases are also the subject of scrutiny.

According to the New York Post, the activist has set her sights on a Bahamas property and has invested 3.2 million dollars in four residences in the US.

Her source of income was called into doubt when her real estate announcement made multiple press headlines. And many people started to criticize her for utilizing BLM funds for her extravagance.

Author and performer Cullors defended herself, saying that she could support her family and her costs thanks to her several occupations. She also worked primarily for free and only received $120,000 from the BLM foundation.

Nevertheless, according to BiographyDaily, Cullors’ estimated net worth as of 2021 is $1 million.
