Bega began his musical career as a rap artist. When he was 13, he formed a hip-hop group with two other boys. While living in Miami, he studied Latin music. When Bega returned to Munich, he met a manager, Goar Biesenkamp, as well as music producers “Donald Fact” and “Frank Lio,” with whom he co-wrote the song “Mambo No. 5.
