Lauren Tewes was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, on October 26, 1953. Her father is from Germany, and her mother is from Ireland. Joseph Robert Tewes (father) and Joanne Tewes (mother) are her parents (mother). One of her three brothers and sisters is Ed Tewes. Her father was a carpenter. When she was eight years old, her family moved to Whittier, California.
Lauren received her primary education at Ada S. Nelson Elementary School. She attended Pioneer High School and was very interested in the school plays. She excelled in dramas, earning the title of Best Actress three years in a row. Tewes then enrolled at Rio Hondo College to study Theatre Arts for an associate of arts degree.
She was awarded “The Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Theatre” while studying in Rio. As a sophomore, she was awarded a one-year scholarship to the University of California, Riverside.

After graduating, Lauren went on to work at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre in Santa Maria, California. She went on to make her stage debuts in “Arsenic and Old Lace” and “The Happiest Fella” in the years that followed. Tewws also became a member of the Birdcage Theatre Company at Knott’s Berry Farm. In mid-1974, she made her television debut in a Lipton Ice Tea commercial.
She appeared in small roles on television shows such as Charlie’s Angels, Vega$, Family, Starsky and Hutch, and others throughout the year. She was also a server at one of the ‘Sunset Boulevard coffee shops,’ and she was poor. Her career takes off when she appears on The Love Boat as cruise operator Julie McCoy.
