John Challis is a skilled storyteller and actor. In the course of his extensive career, he has played everything from heavyweights in television drama to sitcom stars to pantomime performers to even a one-man show.

The three autobiographies written by John Challis are titled “Wigmore Abbey: The Treasure of Mortimer,” “Being Boycie,” and “Boycie & Beyond.” He started his book tour in April 2012 at the Waterstones in Uxbridge to promote Being Boycie.

Career of John Challis

John Challis has always wanted to be an actor, but his parents have always pushed him to obtain a real career. He briefly held jobs carrying groceries and as a trainee estate agent.

He soon began performing, and in 1960, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. He made his television debut in The Newcomers five years later. He later performed on a number of television programs. Following is a list of some of them:

House

In the year 2019, John was in the garden of the Herefordshire-based Grade I-listed Wigmore Abbey when he heard bangs and explosions. He made an attempt to douse the fire himself, but after failing, he dialed 999. The crew and six fire engines arrived to extinguish the blaze that had started in the barn and across the other side of the roadway.

John and his wife Carol purchased Wigmore Abbey in 1998, and since then, they have been renovating the historic £750,000 home.
