Professional Career

When he was five years old, he started playing football with his hometown team, Loan, and he did so until 2003. He enrolled in the Olimpija youth program when he was ten years old in 2003, and he remained there until the club’s dissolution following the 2004–05 season.

Olimpija Ljubljana

In 2005, he moved to Beigrad, a recently founded city. Beigrad underwent a number of name changes until becoming Olimpija Ljubljana in 2008. At the age of 16, he made his Olimpija Ljubljana professional debut on May 17, 2009, in a 7-2 victory over Mura 05 in the Slovenian Second League. As Olimpija Ljubljana won the league and was promoted to the PrvaLiga for the following season, he played 33 times for the squad in 2009–10 while recording 9 clean sheets in all competitions. During the 2010–11 season, He served as the team’s starting goalkeeper and missed just three league games as the team finished fourth in the rankings.

Benfica Return

In July 2013, he avoided preseason practice on the grounds that he was not under contract with Benfica. Late into the next month, he agreed to an extension of his contract through 2018, referring to the situation as a “misunderstanding.” Benfica manager Jorge Jesus benched veteran starter Artur in favor of Oblak in the middle of the 2013–14 campaign. In his subsequent starts, Oblak continued to keep several clean sheets, including a 2-0 home win against Porto and a 0-0 draw at Juventus in the UEFA Europa League semifinals. Atletico Madrid
