David went to Pasadena Community College in this city, where he met the Van Halen siblings and Michael Anthony. They founded the Van Halen band and released their debut album, Van Halen, in 1978. Their song Jump, which was published in 1984, catapulted them to popularity.
This song reached number one on the Billboard charts. David later quit the band in 1985 to pursue a solo career. His solo career began with the song Crazy From The Heat, but it faded after a few years, so he reunited with Van Halen in 1996 for two songs on the band’s greatest hits album.

David became acquaintances with Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen, siblings who played together in the band Mammoth, during his early career. David had worked with a number of bands, including Red Ball Jets and Mammoth, who rented Roth’s PA system for their performances. Due to certain identity concerns, Roth eventually became a permanent member of Mammoth, and the band changed its name to Van Halen.
Van Halen signed a deal with Warner Bros. in 1977, and their self-titled album was released the following year. Roth’s singing and Eddie Van Halen’s guitar made the band a big sensation. The band gained a lot of success and had a number of hit albums, but in 1984, Roth decided to go solo, and Van Halen replaced him with his musical competitor, Sammy Hagar.
Roth sung solo songs until 1996 after departing Van Halen in 1985. Roth joined Van Halen for a few songs on their greatest hit album in 1996. This year, Sammy departed the band, but Roth returned to his solo career after creating some tunes with his old comrades.
