Childhood and Early Life
Ashley Wagner was born on a US Army base in Heidelberg, Germany, on May 16, 1991. Growing up with father Lieutenant Colonel Eric Wagner, a retired US Army officer, and mother Melissa James, a former schoolteacher. She will be 31 years old in 2022.
Ashley had the opportunity to live in several states, including Delaware, California, Alaska, Kansas, Washington State, and Virginia. Despite moving around, she considers Seabeck, Washington to be her home, even though she currently resides in southern California. Austin, her younger brother, is also a national-level competent skater.

Ashley Wagner – Professional Experience
Ashley is a figure skater who began skating at the age of five, choosing between skating and ballet. She demonstrated her passion and dedication to skating by earning a gold medal in her maiden competition. Tara Lipinski, a Wagner fan, earned a gold medal in the Winter Olympics in 1998 and decided she wanted to compete in the Olympics as well.
During her time in Portland, Oregon, she was coached by Dody Teachman. Later that year, in 2002, she began studying with Shirley Huges in Alexandria, Virginia, where her competition programs were choreographed by Jill Shipstad Thomas.
Wagner makes her formal debut in US national skating in the 2002-03 season after qualifying for the US Junior Figure Skating Championships. Wagner finished 17th at the Intermediate level, and earned a silver medal at her regional competition, but finished 10th at her sectional competition and did not advance to the 2004 National Championships.
She then tried again the following season (2004-05), qualifying and finishing ninth at nationals. Wagner earned a pewter medal on the junior level at the 2006 US Nationals, earning her a ticket to her international junior debut at the Triglav Trophy in Slovenia.
Wagner won two Junior Grand Prix in 2006-07, advancing her to the Junior Grand Prix Final, where she finished second to fellow American Caroline Zhang. She also won a bronze medal at the 2007 National Championship. Wagner retired from professional competition skating in August 2019.
