Amir Johnson’s professional basketball career started in 2005. He began his professional basketball career after being chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 2005 NBA lottery. Amir Johnson was assigned to the NBA Rookie League’s Fayetteville Patriots on February 27, 2006. He has also played for the NBA Developmental League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, where he was named Player of the Week for his excellent effort.
On July 12, 2007, Johnson signed a three-year, $12 million contract extension with the Pistons, and on June 23, 2009, he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.
