One of the five cycling Monuments has only been won by an American, Hamilton, a well-known former professional road cyclist. He competed in the Summer Olympics in 2000 and 2004, winning a gold medal in the individual time trial in 2004.
In addition, he won the national road race in 2008. On March 1, 1971, Tyler Hamilton was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, in the United States.
