Sharon stepped away from the news for a few moments at the end of her news segment on December 5, 2015. She discussed an email she received from a woman who was upset with her regarding a broadcast she hosted.
In the broadcast, she and her colleague discussed racial issues in relation to two candidates (one white and one black) who ran for Mayor of Atlanta.
The women accused Sharon of ‘race-baiting’ in the email broadcast. The woman also stated that Sharon expressed her opinion because only black people were qualified to discuss race.
As a result, Sharon broadcast the email, which misinterpreted her words and accused her of racism. The video of her discussing email in her news segment went viral, being shared over a thousand times on social networking sites.
