Cleo Rose Elliott has been known since she was a child for being the only child of Academy Award nominees Sam Elliott (A Star Is Born) and Katharine Ross (The Graduate). She made a reputation for herself, though, when she released her debut solo CD, No More Lies, at the age of 24. Here are some interesting facts about Cleo.
Cleo Rose Elliott’s Famous Parents
Despite being Sam and Ross’s only child, Cleo Rose Elliott had a strained relationship with her mother. Ross said in 2011 that her daughter had been abusive as a youngster and had become violent when she was 12 or 13 years old. After it was revealed that Cleo had stabbed Ross numerous times with a scissor, their poor relationship became public.
Cleo lost her cool and began mumbling, “I want to murder you,” according to The Graduate actress. When Ross attempted to call the police, her daughter used scissors to cut the telephone wire and stabbed her right arm six times.
[Cleo stabbed] with enough force to pierce my skin through my shirt, leaving scars that can still be seen today. Following the incident, Ross filed for a protective order, ordering Cleo to keep at least 100 yards away from her mother’s house, office, and car.
Cleo and Ross have reconciled, and their relationship has improved dramatically. The family was also seen together at the premiere of A Star Is Born in 2018. Randy Christopher Bates, Cleo’s boyfriend, accompanied the family of three. They’ve been together since at least 2013 and have frequently posted about each other on social media.
Her First Song
In December 2009, Cleo first announced that she would be releasing her debut solo album. She was always interested in music and learned to play the flute and guitar at an early age, but she always saw herself as a singer first.
Her grandma inspired her to start singing when she was a small child. Cleo began classical singing lessons with Charity Chapman after graduating from Colin McEwan High School. In addition to coaching her, Chapman assisted Cleo in releasing her first album by connecting her to producer Bobby Harbry, who collaborated with her on No More Lies.
When it came to composing music, however, her preferences were diametrically opposed to what she had studied. Guns N’ Roses, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Fiona Apple, and Sheryl Crow are among her favorite performers, and she describes No More Lies as pop-rock. Cleo talked about how she wrote her songs and No More Lies with The Malibu Times.
I’ve only ever known one way to write: directly from the heart. Of course, the songs on ‘No More Lies’ are about love. It’s all about finding love and then losing it. But it isn’t about a single person.
