Richard Dawson- Early Life
Richard Dawson was born on November 20, 1932, in Gosport, Hampshire, England, as Colin Lionel Emm. He was raised by his father, Arthur Emm, and his mother, Josephine Lucy Emm. John Leslie Emm was his younger brother.
In terms of his education, Dawson stated that World War II had a negative impact on his grades. In one of the interviews with Hogan’s Heroes co-star Bob Crane, he described how he and his brother, John, were forced to flee England as children to avoid the bombing of the country’s major port cities during WWII. His school attendance was severely limited as a result of that experience. He only attended school on a regular basis for two years.
Dawson died on June 2, 2012, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 79, from complications related to esophageal cancer. His body was laid to rest in Los Angeles’ Westwood Memorial Park.
