From 1992 to 1999, he worked as an auto race driver and crew chief for Jeff Gordon.

During his time with Jeff, Ray won 47 Cup races and three Winston Cup Series championships.

Ray began working as a consultant for Hendrick Motorsports shortly after saying goodbye to Jeff.

He also founded and ran Everham Motorsports from 2001 to 2010. He later sold all of his stock to Richard Petty and other investment firms.

Ray worked as an analyst for ESPN’s NASCAR coverage in addition to excelling as a crew chief and consultant. In addition, he hosted Velocity’s AmeriCARna in 2014.

In addition, he hosted NBCSN’s new show, Glory Road, which debuted on August 7, 2018.
