Melanie Lawson: Biography and Age
Melanie Lawson was born on March 10, 1969, to Audrey and Reverend William Lawson. She grew up in Houston with her three siblings, Cheryl Lawson, Eric Lawson, and Roxanne Lawson. Melanie is proud to be a Houstonian and a product of a Houston school.
She received her undergraduate degree in Politics from Princeton University. She then went on to Columbia University to further her studies in law and journalism.
She has been an active member of her parents’ Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. Her father is now 90 years old, and her mother died at the age of 83.
Melanie Lawson: Is He Married?
Melanie, on the other hand, is a divorcee. She was married to Geary G Broadnax, the Chief Executive Officer and President of Dovarri, Inc. They had been living together as husband and wife since their wedding on September 13, 1986 in Harris County, Texas. Melanie’s marital journey with partner, however, ended in divorce with the passage of time, and the couple split up.
Melanie had to go through divorce proceedings as well as Multiple Sclerosis, a disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. Nonetheless, she fought the disease with caution and the use of a cane. With the help of her family members, she remained brave and did not let her disease interfere with her career.

Following graduation, she worked at Channel 13 as a full-time general assignment reporter. In addition, she began co-anchoring Channel 13’s The Midday Show, Eyewitness: Live at 11 and Crossroads.
Throughout her career, she covered stories in nearly every city, state, and national election. She also traveled the world in support of great journalism, interviewing notable figures such as three US Presidents, Henry Kissinger, Grammy Award winners Destiny’s Child, poet Maya Angelou, the Dalai Lama, Denzel Washington, actor Lily Tomlin, Shirley MacLaine, and legendary journalist Barbara Walters.
Melanie’s 30 years of journalism dedication has paid off handsomely, earning her an Emmy Award, the YWCA’s “Outstanding Women of the Year,” and recognition as a “Woman of Distinction” by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
