Trae Young is one of the NBA’s most exciting young players.
In each of his first three seasons, Trae Young was ranked in the top ten in the NBA in at least one statistical category. Rayford, an African-American father, and Candice, a Caucasian mother, gave birth to the 6’1 multiracial basketball player on September 19, 1998, in Lubbock, Texas.
Career
Young began his basketball career at Norman North High School, where he was recognized for his outstanding performance at that age. He was known as one of their high school basketball team’s striking gods and was selected Gatorade Player of the Year on several occasions.
Young was also named the school’s second-best point guard and was ranked 15th in the country as a student-athlete prospect by ESPN.
As a recruited athlete, he graduated from high school and was accepted to Oklahoma University. His prowess with the Oklahoma Sooners gained him a large following in his hometown. Before entering the NBA Draft in 2018, Young became the only player to ever lead the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in both points and assists in a single season.
On June 21, 2018, the Dallas Mavericks selected Young as the fifth overall pick. On July 1, 2018, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks.
His father was a basketball player in the past.
Young learned the game from his father, a professional basketball player at the time. Young’s father, Rayford, grew up in a low-income family in Texas, according to the Washington Post. Interior heating was a luxury, and his single sweater and pants combo had become something of a uniform for him.
In the late 1990s, he became a talented athlete, defying the odds and playing point guard at Texas Tech.
During his NBA career, the NBA player’s father averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 37.9% from beyond the arc. Ray played for the Houston Rockets for less than a season before moving to Europe and establishing himself as a professional basketball player. During the 2001-02 season, he was a member of numerous teams, including FC Porto in Portugal.
Ray was also a huge influence on Young’s decision to pursue basketball, as he looked up to his father as a role model.
Trae Family: A Look Inside
Ray and Candice Young met on campus during their high school years, just like Young and his girlfriend Shelby Danae Miller. Young was born in Lubbock, and his father was a member of his collegiate team until his junior year.
Young is the third of his parents’ three children. Caitlin and Camryn Young are his sisters, while Timothy Young is his younger brother.
