Career
Psaki got her start in politics in 2001, working on the re-election campaigns of Iowa Democrats Tom Harkin for the US Senate and Tom Vilsack for governor.
In 2004, Psaki worked for John Kerry’s presidential campaign as the deputy press secretary. From 2005 to 2006, Psaki worked as the communications director for U.S. Representative Joseph Crowley and the regional press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
In 2008, Psaki served as the campaign’s traveling press secretary for US Senator Barack Obama. After Obama’s election victory, Psaki joined him at the White House as Deputy Press Secretary, and on December 19, 2009, she was promoted to Deputy Communications Director.
In November 2020, Psaki left CNN to join the Biden-Harris transition team. Later that month, Psaki was named White House press secretary for the Biden administration. On the evening of January 20, after the inauguration, she held her first press conference.
