In 1994, Barker received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting. Barker led the Crimson Tide to a 35-2-1 record as their starting quarterback, breaking the NCAA record for most victories by a collegiate quarterback at the time. Barker was drafted in the fifth round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, but he did not make the team. Barker went on to play for the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers, but he never played in a regular-season game. In 1998, he was signed by the Toronto Argonauts, who took him to the Canadian Football League. After three seasons with the Argonauts, Barker left to join the XFL’s Birmingham Thunderbolts.
