Imagine being in a position where your work and personality can elevate and motivate others, but how effective would your influence be if you are demotivated and depressed yourself?
Tasha Cobbs Leonard, a gospel singer and songwriter, faced the same struggle until Tasha Cobbs prioritized her health and wellness.
Tasha Cobbs Discloses Her Weight-Loss Surgery
In the season finale of Unsung in April 2018, the Grammy Award-winning singer spoke up about her battle with depression and her choice to undergo substantial weight loss surgery.
The artist admitted that she had struggled with her weight her entire life and that she knew she needed to move on in order to discover her true self. It was in 2010 that she decided to do something about it and underwent surgery.
Cobbs, a devout Christian, reasoned to herself that if god could help her spiritual life, why couldn’t he also help her physical health?
Why can’t I receive an assistance in a surgery to help me walk out my natural life if God can give me an assistant like the holy spirit to help me walk out my spiritual life?

Cobbs chose to have surgery despite the fact that it was taboo in the Christian community
Cobbs claims that the operation was about more than just losing weight; it was about discovering her true self, which had been concealed beneath the mountain of additional weight she had carried her entire life.
She first discovered she was overweight when she went to the mall with some friends and had to take a break to regain her breath.
The spiritual speaker wanted to treat her body like a Holy temple, so she prayed to God for a few days before deciding to lose weight through surgery. “I know this is a taboo subject in the church community because we don’t like to talk about it and everyone looks down on it,” she added, “but I have struggled with weight issues my entire life.” Cobbs, on the other hand, had learned that surgery alone would not keep her healthy, so she also ate well and exercised often.
Her weight gain had an impact on her not just physically but also mentally. Cobbs revealed her emotional and mental battles throughout her life in the same interview with Unsung. She explained that she would return home and spend many days alone in the darkroom.
Not only that, but the singer revealed in the interview that she had a slew of emotional challenges, including weight concerns, that all piled up at the same time and drove her to depression.
In addition, the ‘Break Every Chain’ singer revealed that she went to a therapist to put her life’s broken parts back together, which was a completely new experience for her because no one she knew had ever gone to a therapist.
I had never been to therapy before. I assumed I didn’t know anyone who went to therapy. In our churches and in our culture, we don’t talk about mental health enough. Despite the fact that Madamenoire’s owner has survived her mental battle, she continues to see a therapist to ensure that everything is in order and that she is psychologically strong.
I continue to see a therapist. It’s not as regular as it used to be, but I still meet with my therapist once a month or so to make sure we’re on track. It’s something I believe in, and I encourage others to do as well. I believe there are people on this planet that God has truly blessed to be able to assist us in every crisis in our lives, with His strength and might.
Tasha Cobbs is the founder of a clothing line for curvy women
‘Curve Athletics,’ a clothing line aimed at plus-size women, was also founded by the Grammy winner. When BeyoncĂ©’s Ivy Park apparel line sold out of plus-size clothing before she could get a single piece, she got the idea for Curve Athletics. She then joked that she was going to start selling athletic apparel for “curvy girls out there.”
The clothing line promotes body positivity and self-love by offering beautiful, comfortable, and fun clothes to all curvy women. The line is tailored to fit the needs of plus-size women.
