Meena Harris grew up without a father in a family full of women, having been born to a 17-year-old Maya Harris.
After Meena Harris introduced them, her mother, who is now married to Tony West, grew closer to him.
West and Maya told the story of how they met Stanford Attorney. West played hide-and-seek with a four-year-old Meena on his first day of law school. West was later introduced to Meena’s mother, with whom he finally married after a decade of dating.
Meena Harris comes from a family of lawyers.
Maya, Meena’s mother, is a lawyer who worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign as a Senior Policy Advisor. Kamala Harris became the 49th Vice-President of the United States, following in her sister’s political footsteps.
Meena is a lawyer, just like her mother and aunt. Her grandmother (a scientist and breast cancer researcher), mother, and aunt, whom she considers role models, are responsible for her accomplishments.
West, Meena’s father, is an attorney who previously worked for the Department of Justice’s Civil Division as an Assistant Attorney General. He is currently employed at Uber as a Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, and Corporate Secretary.
Meena Is A Children’s Book Author Meena has two novels to her credit as a children’s book author. Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea, her first book, was released in June 2020. The book is based on her mother’s and aunt’s childhood experiences, and it expands on issues of activism and community building. The book also provides lessons about cooperation and the power of an individual to bring about change.
Ambitious Girl, Meena’s second book, was released in 2021. According to her, the book was written to encourage young children and to explore the issues that women and girls confront.
“It teaches students how to reframe, reinvent, and reclaim words designed to tear them down,” according to the summary. After its release, Ambitious Girl became the #1 New York Times Best-Selling Book.
On International Women’s Day in 2016, Meena, the founder and CEO of ‘Phenomenal,’ manufactured and marketed “Phenomenal Women” tees in the hopes of donating the proceeds to organizations such as Planned Parenthood and Girls Who Code. What began as a little endeavor quickly expanded into the Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign.
Under the umbrella of the campaign, it currently promotes awareness about issues impacting under-represented communities and offers a variety of apparel items. Harris celebrated the campaign’s success on Instagram in March 2018. She had wanted to sell 500 tees in a month when she first started.
Two Daughters’ Mother
Meena is the mother of two girls, Amara and Leela, who she shares with her husband Nikolas Ajagu. Ajagu used to work at Facebook as the Global Head of Partnerships, but he left to be a stay-at-home father.
