After stumbling back to the sideline against Houston, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry suffered a bruised tailbone.
He landed awkwardly on the concrete floor and left their 108-94 win over the Houston Rockets early last week.
While everyone assumed it would be a minor injury, only Curry’s return is taking longer than expected.
Stephen Curry will miss another week, according to the latest report from GSW coach Steve Kerr.
Stephen Curry will be out for another week. Kerr had an MRI this morning, and it revealed “inflammation in that tailbone.”
So he’ll be out for at least three more games. “This is going to take a little longer than we anticipated,” Kerr said.
Last week’s injury to Stephen Curry
Curry stumbled backward in the final seconds of the third quarter after missing a 3-point shot from the wing.
Curry backpedaled off the court while attempting to regain his balance, landing directly on his tailbone.
His hands were behind him, but there was nothing to stop him.
Curry immediately moved in pain on the ground before slowly walking off into the locker room.
Curry was ruled out with a tailbone contusion after collapsing in the third quarter at the Toyota Center.
He finished with 18 points and eight assists on 2-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
GSW coach Steve Kerr provided an injury update following the game.
“I’m not sure if he’ll play in Memphis [on Friday],” Kerr said, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “But he seems to think he’ll be fine in a week or so.” We’ll see what happens.
“Don’t interpret that as him being out for a week. For all I know, he could be back practicing tomorrow.”
Coach Kerr was unfazed by the injury because he expected Steph to return as soon as possible, but his injury is more serious than previously thought.
In Stephen’s absence, GSW intends to Appear
Stephen missed two games following his injury against the Grizzles and did not play for the Warriors after that.
Stephen is expected to miss three more games today against the Philadelphia 76ers, followed by games against the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The warriors’ Coach decided to allow the Warriors to rest even more for him to recover in better health.
The Warriors welcome back GSW’s James Wiseman and Eric Paschall, with James starting the game.
The Warriors’ starting lineup will be altered indefinitely. “I expect James (Wiseman) to start the rest of the season,” says Steve Kerr.
Coach Kerr explains why he chose James Wiseman to be the Warriors’ starting center going forward.
In Stephen Curry’s absence, Jordan Poole will continue to start. “He was even dominant in our scrimmage in practice yesterday,” says Steve Kerr.
He’s brimming with self-assurance right now. It’s wonderful to see. “I’m playing at a high level and will continue to get chances.”
Stephen Squanders an Opportunity for other Players to Shine
On the one hand, Stephen Curry’s unfortunate injury is bad news for the Warriors, his teammates, and fans.
On the other hand, his injury allows other players to thrive and demonstrate their abilities.
The same thing happened in the Warriors’ two games against the Grizzlies, where Curry missed both of them, with the Warriors winning one and losing the other.
Even in defeat, the Warriors saw impressive moves from Jordan Poole, who has continued his hot shooting streak with 26 points and five assists.
Poole is one of the main beneficiaries of Curry’s absence.
With Curry on the bench, Poole has had a chance to showcase all of the progress he’s made this season.
He’s gaining confidence in his shot and making the most of every second he’s on the court.
When the rest of the team tries to adjust and gain experience without Curry.
Curry can also make a full recovery and return to play even better.
Players such as Kelly Oubre, Andrew Wiggins, Eric Paschall, and James Wiseman will benefit from the opportunity.
This is their opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and demonstrate their ability to make plays and shots for the team.
While it’s unclear how long it will take Curry to fully recover, the Warriors still have a chance to win games.
They are still in contention for the Western Conference Playoffs.
Despite all of the injuries, the Warriors are holding off better than expected, even without Klay Thompson and players missing matches due to COVID protocols.
Still, the Warriors need Curry to be healthy to compete in the play-in tournament.
