Jaleel White, a former Dancing With The Stars contestant, alleges he was not greeted warmly upon his arrival on Family Matters. According to a TV One post, Jaleel discusses his experience performing his most well-known character, Steve Urkel.
Family Matters’ Initial Impression
During the teaser for TV One’s Uncensored, he revealed that the cast did not welcome him because he was unfamiliar with the show and the appearance was only supposed to be a guest appearance.
However, his character became a fan favorite and remained on the show for an extended period of time.
“I was not welcomed to the cast at all…they know what it was…I didn’t think anything of it being cast to be on Family Matters because it was supposed to be a guest spot, one and done.”
Later in the preview, White becomes upset while discussing his on-screen character, who died in 1998 of stomach cancer.
White communicates-
“Michelle Thomas became a very special person…I literally cannot say her name, or I’ll cry”
The episode aired on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Conflicts With Ex-Girlfriend and Charged With Assault
Jaleel’s relationship with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Hardy was quite unhealthy. Although the actual period of their relationship is unknown, some sources indicate they began in 2006 and ended between 2009 and 2011.
Together, Jaleel and Bridget have a daughter named Samaya White (born in 2009).
Jaleel was accused of adultery and domestic violence in March 2012, while he was dating Hardy. According to Hardy, Jaleel is an abusive cheater. Hardy stated in an exclusive interview with Star Magazine-
“Verbally and emotionally, he’s abusive. He told me I’m not working; I have no money; I’m white trash. None of it was true….He hit me across the chest area, He pushed me into the toilet, and it broke. Water went everywhere, through the walls and even to the kitchen downstairs.”
However, Jaleel disputed the abuse during an April 2012 interview with Entertainment Tonight, insisting that there was no domestic violence. He even stated that Hardy brought the litigation as a ‘ploy’ to obtain the money. He stated –
“I’ve never been arrested in my life, I have no history of violence. I’ve never even had a cop show up to my home.”
On the other hand, Hardy stated that Jaleel offered her money in exchange for leaving their daughter with him.
She asserted-
“He texted me and offered me $200,000 to leave our daughter with him and have me go and start my own family…He basically tried to pay me off. I went home screaming and said, We’re done.”
After dealing with complications from a previous relationship, the former Family Matters star has been silent about his personal life. While some of Jaleel’s admirers believe he is married and lives with his secret wife, others believe he is unmarried and responsible for his kid alone.
