Elie Honig is a CNN legal analyst and former federal and state prosecutor. He is currently the executive director of the Rutgers Institute for Secure Communities, in addition to his role at CNN. He has also worked as a special counsel at the law firm Lowenstein Sandler, LLC in New Jersey.
Elie is also a Cherry High School East graduate who attended Rutgers College for his undergraduate degree in 1997. He finally received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 2000.

Ellie joined the law firm Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. as an associate after finishing his formal education.
He was there until 2004, when he left to become an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. He spent eight years in that position, prosecuting and trying cases involving organized crime, human trafficking, public corruption, and violent crimes.
From 2012 to 2018, Elie was the deputy director and then the director of the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice.
During his tenure as director, he spearheaded numerous successful statewide policy initiatives, including bail reform, police-involved shooting response, body-worn cameras, community policing, internal affairs, witness protection, and deconfliction.
With all of his incredible accomplishments, he finally began his CNN career in October 2018.
