Joju stated that the personal papers were timely when they were received by Emory University. She went on to say that they provide a historical perspectives for today’s social movements and justice issues. Similarly, the papers show current social movements being co-opted and infiltrated, according to Cleaver.
During her senior year of college, she was also involved in a student effort to diversify the curriculum. In 2018, she lost her brother to a heart attack. Joju was only a year younger than her brother, Ahmad Maceo, as previously stated.
As a result, despite the fact that Joju’s passport lists her birthplace as North Korea and Maceo’s as Algeria, they virtually grew up together. Joju’s brother also attended Cornell University, as the Cleaver family valued education.

Ahmad Cleaver, Joju’s brother, died after a heart attack in October of 2018.
He was apparently counting down the days until he could return to his mother and sister in Saudi Arabia, but he perished in Taif.
