Bipolar disorder is divided into three types: Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and Cyclothymic disorder. The disease influences a person’s mood, ranging from manic episodes of intense happiness, irritability, and irritability to depressive episodes of sadness, indifference, and hopelessness.

Harbour’s Bipolar Disorder History

On June 4, 2018, Harbour spoke out for the first time about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder on the WTF podcast. He admitted that when he was 25 years old, he had a psychotic episode that landed him in a mental hospital.

Prior to his diagnosis, the Black Widow actor believed he was in contact with God and had investigated the Catholic faith. He admitted that he wasn’t on any medications and that he didn’t need them to have hallucinations. He went on to say that if he wanted to, he could see “the elves in the corners of the room.”

His parents then took him to a mental institution, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The actor seemed to imply that the diagnosis was the culmination of all of his prior acts.

Harbour admitted that he used to romanticize mental health facilities, but that after visiting one, he realized it was not as he had expected.
Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard revealed that he has been on medication since his diagnosis, and that he has struggled to stick to his medication regimen.

David Harbour-Acting Career

In a December 2019 interview with NPR, Harbour discussed how bipolar disorder has affected him, especially in his acting career. When asked whether his behavior had changed as a result of his diagnosis, the actor said yes.

He claimed there was a connection between creative people and mental illness, contrary to popular belief. He channelled his memories of being an outcast or being “too emotional” for certain people through his characters.

The 45-year-old even spoke about how diverse his own personality is. He explained that even though he is physically big and tough, he has a lot of empathy for those who are lost, and that is why he is called a valiant outcast.

The actor also admitted that he is concerned that the drugs would impair his acting performance. The actor, who has been receiving medicine as well as psychotherapy, attributes his stability to the latter.

David Harbour stated that he has been stable for the past four years since beginning psychotherapy. He added that despite the fact that he has been on medication for over eighteen years, it has not helped him (as compared to psychoanalysis.)

David Harbour admitted to GQ that he didn’t speak about his mental condition until he was popular because he didn’t want to be associated with being unreliable at work. He admitted that he was concerned about being recruited, but that he is now able to discuss it in detail.
