Astrid Menks, a Latvian-American philanthropist, spent much of her childhood in Latvia before moving to the United States to pursue her proverbial American dream. However, Astrid is best known as the wife of business magnate Warren Buffett.
Astrid Menks: Husband, Wedding
When it came to her first romantic encounter, Astrid Menks was extremely fortunate. She met her husband, Warren Buffett, while working as a waitress in a cocktail bar.
Warren’s first wife, Susan Thompson, also worked at the same bar as a nightclub singer. Warren was madly in love with his first wife.
But it wasn’t meant to last long. The problem in Warren’s marriage began when he met Katharine Kay Graham, the publisher of the Washington Post.
He began spending so much time in Washington that he began keeping spare clothing sets in Katharine’s guest room.
Susan also became depressed about her marriage and believed Katharine was pursuing her husband.
Katherine was even seen at a charity event tossing her door key to Warren. Susan had already distanced herself from her husband, despite the fact that they were only friends.
Susan gradually began to spend less time at home with her family and more time at jazz clubs and traveling as she worked to establish her own career.
Susan became good friends with Astrid at the time. Susan asked Astrid to look after her husband, Warren, before she left for San Francisco to pursue her music career.
Warren, on the other hand, was devastated and summoned Susan.
Astrid looked after Warren and even cooked for him while he was in heartbreak.
Astrid eventually developed feelings for him, but she respected his feelings for his first wife and accepted Warren would never marry her.
Susan never attempted to mend her marriage with her husband, but she did attend events with him. Warren was getting the best of both worlds, and both women were at ease with one another.
Susan was diagnosed with cancer in 2003, but she survived surgery and radiotherapy and was declared cancer-free in 2004. Unfortunately, she died of a stroke the same year, and Warren mourned for a long time.
Astrid, on the other hand, was always by his side. On Warren’s 76th birthday, two years after Susan’s death, Astrid married Warren in a simple civil ceremony.
She wore a turquoise blouse and white trousers to her wedding, while Warren wore a business suit.
For the past three decades, the couple has enjoyed marital bliss.
Astrid is not only a wonderful wife to him, but also a wonderful mother to her stepchildren, Susan, Howard, and Peter.
Net Worth and Salary
Astrid has accumulated a sizable sum of money from her previous work as a waitress.
She held the title of wife of a billionaire after marrying Warren, while enjoying her husband’s net worth. Her husband’s net worth is $83.1 billion.
They are said to be the world’s third wealthiest couple.
Her husband is one of history’s most successful investors. He has promised to give away more than 99% of his fortune, and he has already donated $35 billion to charitable foundations.

According to her biography, Astrid was born in Latvia in 1946. She has not, however, revealed her birthday.
Not surprisingly, information about her family and childhood is scarce. Astrid, then 73, relocated to the United States to further her career.
