The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, dubbed the finest rap album of all time, was rapper Lauryn Hill’s most soulful and, regrettably, only solo effort to date.
When it was released in 1989, the now-classic LP received wonderful reviews and went on to win a slew of prizes, including Album of the Year at the Grammys.
The context in which it arose is no less persuasive. Lauryn traveled to the Caribbean after her breakup with The Fugees and fellow bandmate Wyclef Jean, where she began an affair with musician Rohan Marley, the father of her five children.
The South Orange, New Jersey native and the son of famed singer Bob Marley maintained a rock-solid relationship with their children over the years. But was it enough for them to tie the knot? If not, can you tell me who her husband is?
Relationship Status
It all started in 1996 when Lauryn Hill met Rohan while on tour with The Fugees. She became pregnant with the couple’s first child, Zion, within a year.
After parting up with Wyclef, with whom she had been in an on-again, off-again relationship for years, the Doo Wop hitmaker relocated to her then-boyfriend Rohan’s home Jamaica to concentrate on her debut solo CD, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Despite never marrying, she and her ex-husband prospect had 15 more happy years together, welcoming four more children – Selah, Joshua, John, and Sarah – in the interim until calling it split in 2011.
Lauryn’s pregnancy, which resulted from an affair with an unnamed boyfriend, was at the heart of their feud.
In subsequent interviews, Rohan stated unequivocally that the alleged affair of the “Nothing Even Matters” hitmaker was the cause of their relationship’s demise. To his credit, he was able to put his life back together and married Brazilian beauty Isabeli Fontana a year after the divorce. Lauryn, on the other hand, is less enthusiastic.
Personal Information – From Age to Siblings
In her defense, the Killing Me Softly singer was dealing with legal issues coming from tax evasion charges.
Following the divorce, Lauryn, although having a reputed net worth of $8 million, found herself in grave financial trouble after the IRS accused her of avoiding $1.8 million in taxes.
A year later, in 2013, the mother of six, who stood five feet and two inches tall, was sentenced to four months in prison for the same crime.
Regardless of her problems, Lauryn’s tale of how she made her millions, considering where she started from, is still an inspiration to many.
Lauryn Hill was raised in a musically inclined household alongside Malaney, her only known brother, by middle-class parents – her father Mal and mother Valarie were computer consultants and English teachers, respectively.
The Ex-Factor singer, now 43, is experiencing grandmotherhood for the first time as her daughter attends college.
