Kordell Stewart was born on October 16, 1972, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Florence and Robert reared him and his two siblings in Marrero, Louisiana, just across the Mississippi River from New Orleans.
Stewart’s mother died at the age of twelve, after a protracted fight with liver cancer. To maintain the family, his father worked long hours at multiple jobs. Kordell Stewart subsequently said that his father was the most influential person in his life because he embodied what it meant to be a successful worker.
The football player went to John Ehret High School in Marrero and was a quarterback for the football squad. Kordell was voted New Orleans Player of the Year and earned the All-State squad during his final year of high school in 1990.
Kordell received a scholarship to the University of Colorado in 1991. He went on to become one of the team’s most prolific quarterbacks, setting multiple Buffaloe records, including most passes completed, touchdown passes completed, and passing yards gained.

Career
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Kordell Stewart 60th overall in the 1995 NFL Draft. Kordell played wide receiver and running back during his first two seasons with the organization. He won the starting quarterback role in 1997, leading the Steelers to an 11-5 record and a trip to the AFC Championship Game, where they were defeated by the Denver Broncos.
The Pittsburgh Steelers struggled in 1998 and 1999 after losing several key players from their AFC Championship Game club. Stewart and the Steelers ended 9-7 in 2000, one game short of the playoffs. He led the Steelers to a 13-3 regular-season record and a first-round bye in the AFC playoffs in 2001. Stewart threw for 3,109 yards, a career-best, and was chosen to the NFL Pro Bowl.
In 2002, he was replaced by quarterback Tommy Maddox and appeared in only seven games. He was signed by the Chicago Bears the following season, but he was released after a streak of subpar performances in 2003. Kordell was a backup with the Baltimore Ravens in 2004 and 2005, and he never played again in the NFL.
Since leaving the NFL, Stewart has participated as a participant on the television shows “Pros vs. Joes” and “Deal or No Deal.” Kordell appeared on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” with his ex-wife Porsha Williams Stewart in 2012.
