Co-founder of the VH1 and MTV Cable networks, John Sykes is an American professional in the entertainment industry. Additionally, he serves as the Executive Vice President, Acquisitions for EMI Music Publishing and the CEO of Infinity Broadcasting (now CBS Radio).

John Sykes began his career at CBS Records as a promotion and artist relations manager (Sony Music Entertainment). John joined the creating team at Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment Company (WASEC) in October 1980. John served as the Director of Promotion and Artist Relations at WAESC, which started MTV in 1981. He participated in the development and co-production of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), and as a result of his efforts, he was eventually moved to Vice-President of Programming and Productions, in charge of the network’s long-form content, studio operations, and on-air promotion.
John quit MTV in July 1986 and started working with musicians like Michael Jackson as a film talent agent at Creative Artists Agent (CAA). John then assumed the position of President of Champion Entertainment, Chrysalis Record, and EMI Music. As the president of VH1 Cable TV, he soon made his way back to MTV. He made significant accomplishments over his eight years there, including rebranding VH1 by developing long-form franchises like VH1 Storytellers, VH1 Behind the Music, and Pop-Up Video.
In 2010, John even joined the Shazam Board of Directors while still employed at Viacom. He was appointed president of iHeartMedia, where he was in charge of creating new commercial ventures for the organization in a variety of media, such as digital video platforms, broadcast television, and live events. John also serves as co-executive producer for Turner Broadcasting’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball on the CW, iHeartRadio Country Festival, and iHeartRadio Music Awards.

John also participates actively on the board of the Robin Hood Foundation, a charity that has raised more than $1 billion to aid the underprivileged. Following the World Trade Center attacks in October 2001, John co-produced The Concert for New York City with Harvey Weinstein and Cablevision CEO Jim Dolan. They generated more than $50 million for the Robin Hood Foundation, which distributed all of the funds to the 9/11 attack victims’ families.
