Deadliest Catch is a reality television show about crab fishermen. They fish in the Bearing Sea during the snow crab and Alaskan king crab seasons.
The show has been on the Discovery Channel since April 2005. The series is now in its 17th season, which debuted on March 19, 2021. Edgar Hansen was one of the series’ most well-known anglers. He was an engineer, deck boss, and relief captain on the show for 153 episodes. But primarily, he served as Sig’s right-hand man.
Hansen hasn’t been seen on Deadliest Catch in a long time. This is due to the fact that he has been embroiled in a scandal.
Edgar Hansen: What Happened to Him?
On September 30, 2017, Hansen assaulted a 16-year-old girl at her home. Hansen was held liable after ‘Jane Doe’ disclosed the molestation to her therapist.
He confessed in writing to kissing and groping the 16-year-private old’s parts with the goal of molesting her. He confessed to the crime and apologized to Jane Doe, saying he did it for his own enjoyment.
Prosecutors in Snohomish County agreed to a plea deal after the TV personality pled guilty to fourth-degree assault. Hansen would not be doing time in prison, according to the Seattle Times on July 16, 2018.
He was sentenced to a 364-day suspended prison sentence, $1,653 in court fines, and a sexual-deviancy evaluation and therapy.
What Has Happened to Edgar Hansen?
Fans of Deadliest Catch have been asking two questions after Hansen pleaded guilty: is Edgar Hansen still fishing? What is Edgar Hansen up to these days?
Hansen has kept a low profile since the allegations in 2018. He does not have a social media presence, therefore little is known about his current situation.
Similarly, it is unknown whether he is still a cast member of Deadliest Catch. However, Hansen’s biography has been removed from the show’s website. His final episode aired in August 2018, but there have been reports that he is still working on the show behind the scenes.
Mandy Hansen, Hansen’s niece, posted an Instagram video of the crew on a boat in October 2018. Because Hansen was visible in the footage, many fans wondered if he was still a part of the program.
Regardless, neither the production team for Deadliest Catch nor Discovery have said anything regarding Hansen’s role on the show to date.
Other Cast Members-Related Scandals
Hansen isn’t the only one from Deadliest Catch who has been afoul of the law. His older brother has likewise been involved in a number of scandals.
Melissa Eckstrom, Sig’s estranged daughter, was also accused with molestation. When Eckstrom was a toddler, her parents were divorcing and she was abused.
Sig has rejected all of the charges, claiming that the case is nothing more than “an old-fashioned shakedown.” In a similar vein, he was accused with assaulting an Uber driver while inebriated.
For the attack, he received a one-year term and probation, as well as an order from the court to undertake alcohol treatment as part of a plea bargain.
Jerod Sechrist, another cast member, was arrested three times in six months in 2020. He was arrested for three charges of theft on April 8, 2020. Jake Harris, meantime, has been charged with driving under the influence and narcotics possession.
