Baroness Warsi was born in Dewsbury, England, on March 28, 1971. She is the second of five daughters born in Dewsbury, West Riding of Yorkshire, to Pakistani immigrants from Bewal, Gujar Khan; her ancestors are from southern Punjab. Her father, Safdar Hussain, owns a bed manufacturing company. Warsi received his education at Birkdale High School, Dewsbury College (now Kirklees College), and the University of Leeds.
