When David received an offer to work as a meteorologist, he had recently graduated from college and was employed as a field researcher for the Juneau Icefield Research Program in Alaska.

David began delivering his weather report at 5 o’clock and 6 o’clock on weekdays after joining KXAS-TV in 1974. At the same channel, he received a promotion to senior weathercaster and chief meteorologist.
