Jeremy Dickson Paxman, also known as Jeremy Paxman, was born in West Riding of Yorkshire, England on May 11, 1950. He is the son of industrial worker Arthur Keith Paxman and Joan McKay.

Jeremy grew up as the eldest of four children in a family of four. Giles Paxman, his brother, was the British Ambassador to Spain. Meanwhile, James Paxman, his other younger brother, is the CEO of the Dartmoor Preservation Association. Jenny, Jeremy’s only sister, works as a producer at BBC Radio.

Career

Growing up, Jeremy’s father always made life difficult for him. He stood firm in his assertion that reporting was not a viable career option for Jeremy. Furthermore, the father-son relationship cooled as Keith abandoned Jeremy and his family to remarry in Australia.

Despite the difficulties, Jeremy hoped to advance his journalism career. Jeremy attended St Catharine’s College in Cambridge after graduating from Malvern College. Meanwhile, while at Cambridge, he edited the undergraduate newspaper Varsity.

Later, in 1972, Jeremy joined the BBC’s graduate trainee programme and began working in local radio at BBC Radio Brighton.

During his time as a Newsnight host, it was rumored that his brother, former British ambassador to Spain Giles Paxman, refused to appear on his show. It was speculated that Giles made the refusal out of fear that giving an interview would cost him far more than he would gain.

Jeremy has worked for Channel 4 News on and off since leaving Newsnight in 2014.
