Mikhail Grigorenko was selected as a top-rated forward prospect by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round, 12th overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
On July 18, 2012, the player signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Sabres.
With the start of the 2012-13 season delayed due to the NHL lockout, Grigorenko was reassigned to the Remparts to begin the season.
