Wong suffered a heart attack on the night of October 27th, according to sources. She was then transferred to Singapore General Hospital’s Coronary Care Unit. She died around 12:30 a.m., sadly. Following her death, Wong Ming Yang’s family opted to donate her corneas to individuals in need of cornea transplants. Yeo Buck Hock and Low Thoe Guan received Wong’s donated corneas on the same day he died. Low was a mechanic, whereas Yeo was a student. A few weeks following their procedures, both recipients were able to see and read.
During her husband’s eulogy for her during her funeral service on October 31, 1982, Lee Hsien Loong praised Wong for her support and encouragement during difficult/rough times. He also spoke on his late wife’s fortitude in the face of adversity and excellent advise in all matters.
Her parents flew in from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to attend her funeral in Singapore. On the same day, the late Wong Ming Yang was cremated at Mount Vernon Crematorium. According to The Straits Times, Wong’s burial was also attended by Singapore’s then-president, Devan Nair, and his wife.
