Tony Hawk, full name Anthony Frank Hawk, (born May 12, 1968, in San Diego, California, United States), is an American professional skateboarder who helped the sport of skateboarding enter the mainstream at the end of the twentieth century through technical innovations, successful equipment and apparel companies, and tireless promotional work.

Hawk, who had little patience for failure even as a child, began skateboarding at the age of nine. He began competing at the age of 11 and made an immediate impression with his ingenuity and courage. His parents encouraged him to pursue his new pastime, and they eventually founded the California Amateur Skateboard League and the National Skateboard Association to help legitimize the sport. Hawk joined the Powell Peralta professional team at the age of 14 and appeared in the renowned Bones Brigade videos.

Tony Hawk began competing in events at the age of 11. He later signed his first professional deal with Powel Peralta’s professional team at the age of 14.

At the age of 16, Hawk was already considered the best skateboarder in the world.

He dominated the skateboarding competitions. He won 73 titles and was world champion from 1984 to 1996.

Hawk is also credited with inventing several skating maneuvers. His creations include the ollie to Indy 540, the airwalk, the gymnast plant, the rodeo flip, the varial 720, and saran wrap.

Furthermore, Hawk made history at the 1999 X Games in San Francisco. He was the first skateboarder to complete 900 turns.

Hawk managed to land 900 after ten attempts. In 2016, at the age of 48, he completed another 900, which he stated would be his last.

Hawk retired in 2003, although he still performs stunts at various events and exhibits.

Similarly, during the 2009 Father’s Day celebrations, Hawk was invited to the White House by former US President Barack Obama.
