Todd won the Davey O’Brien Award as the best quarterback in the country during the 1982 season. Todd threw for 2218 yards with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions as a senior, while also rushing for three touchdowns.

In the 1983 Sugar Bowl, he led the Nittany Lions to the national championship with a 27-23 victory over Georgia and Herschel Walker. He was also the game’s MVP, throwing for 228 yards and a 47-yard touchdown pass to Gregg Garrity in the fourth quarter.

Todd received his Bachelor of Arts in speech communication from Penn State in 1983, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a 3.8 GPA. Todd was named a first-team Academic All-American and received the Eric Walker Award, which is given to Penn State seniors who have “enhanced the esteem and recognition of the Campus.” In 1997, he was inducted into the Academic All-America Hall of Fame. Todd is also a member of the Board of Visitors for Penn State’s Center for Sports Journalism.

He later became a radio sports talk show host in Cleveland (WKNR) and Canton, Ohio (WHBC). Todd also worked as an analyst for the Big East Network, the Indianapolis Colts preseason games, and ESPN.
