Who is Sonya Curry?
Sonya Curry is a school administrator and a former volleyball player. She was also a basketball player for her high school team, where she won a handful of titles. She and ex-NBA player Dell Curry are the delighted parents of Stephen and Seth Curry, two NBA stars. Sydel, Sonya’s daughter, is a state volleyball player.
In addition, Sonya runs a Montessori school in North Carolina. The school, which is a charitable organization, focuses on its students’ complete development. Sonya’s Love for Volleyball
During her high school years, Sonya Curry began playing volleyball and basketball. She attended Radford High School and had won state titles in both volleyball and basketball by the time she graduated.
She preferred volleyball to basketball during her undergraduate years. Sonya was a member of the Virginia Tech Sports Club’s ‘Hokies’ team. She was a standout player for her squad and remained one of the most popular players throughout her collegiate career.
She served 57 aces for the junior team in one season, which was the sixth greatest total in Virginia Tech history. By the conclusion of her fourth year, Sonya had set a new high score of 69-70. She also applied to be a member of the All-Metro Team. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in family studies.

Sonya & Dell Curry
Sonya’s life as the wife of a renowned NBA player was never simply because they had to relocate frequently. Sonya had been by his side from their courtship days, following him to every game he played. The family routinely went from Cleveland to Utah for Dell’s games after their wedding.
Until Seth was born in 1990, Sonya continued to accompany him to all of his games. Sonya ultimately settled down and focused on being a homemaker with the birth of their second son, devoting all of her time to raising her children.
Being a Sporty Mother
Sonya Curry is the mother of two NBA stars and a volleyball champion at the state level. She taught a sense of sportsmanship to her children because she was a sportswoman herself. She considers it an accomplishment in and of itself to assist her children in becoming athletes.
She was the first coach for her children because she knew a thing or two about sports. Her children began training at a young age under their mother’s supervision. Sonya assisted them in getting their fundamentals straight, which would be beneficial later in their careers.
When her son Stephen Curry was having trouble qualifying for the NBA team, the ‘Golden State Warriors,’ Sonya Curry advised him to focus on his fundamentals. He recovered thanks to his mother’s smart guidance and was eventually selected for the squad, where he is now a standout player for the ‘Golden State Warriors.’
Seth made it onto the squad a few years later but was then offered a spot on the ‘Sacramento Kings,’ which he accepted. He is currently a member of the ‘Dallas Mavericks.’ Sydel, Sonya’s daughter, has been a successful volleyball player at the state level for many years and currently plays for Elon University.
Professional Career
Sonya Curry put her athletic career on hold to care for her family, but she made the most of her education. In 1995, she and her husband established the Christian Montessori School at Lake Norman, a humanitarian organization. The school places a strong emphasis on the complete development of its students.
