As a police officer for the Los Angeles County Marshal Department, Sonia Montejano began her career in law enforcement. She was given the task of enforcing civil decisions there.
She continued to work for the Sheriff’s Department five years later after the Department merged with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. In the early 1990s, she was also given the promotion to Senior Deputy and hired to work in the Court Services Division, where she oversaw staff and courthouse operations.
After that, Sonia spent the following six years overseeing security implementation and planning for high-profile cases like the trials of actresses Winona Ryder and Courtney Love at the Beverly Hills Courthouse.
The genuine deputy left the police department after over twenty years and transitioned into the entertainment business.
When Judge Joe Brown Court Show producers saw her and offered her a position as bailiff on the CBS syndicated show, she became known as a Hollywood bailiff. She garnered positive reviews for her performance as Madam Sonia and continued to appear on the JJB show for the following seven years until its 2013 finale.
She also served as the bailiff on Judge Judy’s court show Hot Bench from 2014 to 2019, where she upheld the peace and personified judicial decorum.
