Roger Staubach was born in the United States on February 5, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the only child of Robert Joseph and Elizabeth (Smyth) Staubach.

When it comes to Roger’s education, he began his studies at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School.

He went on to graduate from Purcell High School. Soon after, Roger enrolled in the New Mexico Military Institute and the United States Naval Academy.

Staubach was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the 10th round of the 1964 NFL Draft as a “future” pick. Staubach was able to enter the NFL draft one year before his college career ended.

Furthermore, he didn’t play professional football until 1969, after completing his four-year military commitment, when he made his debut as a 27-year-old rookie.

Roger was also selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixteenth round of the 1964 American Football League Draft.
