In 1992, Rob Stone started his career at ESPN as a product assistant. He worked at Outside the Lines, College GameDay, and SportsCenter there.

Rob moved quickly to WFXL-TV, a FOX station, where he worked from 1993 to 1994 as a weekend sports anchor/reporter and from 1994 to 1995 as a sports director.

He also reported for the Sam Wyche Report and the Tony Dungy Show while working as a sports anchor for WTOG-TV in Tampa/St. Petersburg. During the MLS seasons of 1996 and 1997, Rob also served as an analyst for the Tampa Bay Mutiny games broadcast on FOX Sports Florida.

After he re-joined ESPN as a soccer analyst, his career took off. Beginning in 1997, he worked there as a sideline reporter for ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC.
