And that was his best period as a starting quarterback. Rich led the Vikings to victories over the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Detroit Lions in 1987–1988 while playing for them for six regular-season seasons.
Despite all of his triumphs, he fell short in 1987’s NFC title game. Rich served as the Vikings’ quarterback with Kramer and Wilson.
Rich hyperextended his left knee while winning a game against the Lions in 1992, resulting in the first injury of his career. Rich continued to write the winning and losing tales up until 1992.
Redskins of Washington
In 1994, Rich relocated to the Washington Redskins. He served as the third backup, helping out starter Mark Rypien and Cary Conklin. In eight games, he showed up, and in four of those, he started the game.
