Willie’s then-future wife Koepke gave birth to their daughter Paula in Houston on October 27, 1969. Willie divorced his second wife Shirley in 1971, and the following year, the artist married Koepke.

Paula Nelson later entered a rehabilitation facility in San Diego, California. Nelson became a substance abuse counselor soon after she recovered from her addictions.
